Updated 6pm, Saturday 15th February 2020

...WEATHER WARNING for HEAVY RAIN and HIGH WINDS remains in effect until 12pm Sunday 16th February 2020...

WHAT: Storm Dennis will continue to bring severe weather Saturday night and at first on Sunday.

WHERE: The entire forecast area. Highest wind gusts over exposed locations near the Severn Estuary and westward facing hills. Heaviest rain will be across the hills of the Forest.

WHEN: Gales will continue overnight and at first on Sunday. Strongest gusts of nearer 60 to 65 mph are likely over exposed locations, with gusts to near 55 mph elsewhere. The strongest winds are likely until around 6am Sunday. Further heavy rain is likely overnight and in to Sunday, easing by early afternoon.

IMPACTS: Driving conditions will remain hazardous, especially for high sided or towing vehicles. There is a risk of disruption to power supplies, especially where stronger gusts occur. Some trees are likely to be brought down - especially following Storm Ciara as some will have been weakened and the ground will be saturdated. Debris is likely to affect roads throughout the Forest. Heavy rain will also lead to some local flooding, and will add to the hazardous conditions. Additional rainfall amounts of 20 to 40mm are possible, bringing storm total rainfall to between 40 and 60 mm in places. This will cause further standing water and flooding. Area watercourses are very high and fast flowing, and will remain so through Sunday. Forestry England sites will remain closed on Sunday. Restrictions continue on the M48 Severn Bridge.

PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: If driving be alert to the risk of strong and gusty crosswinds, especially on exposed routes, and allow extra time for your journey. At home, secure loose outdoor objects that may blow around in the wind including bins, garden furniture, and garden toys. Move your vehicle to a safe place. Take extra care if outdoors during the storm, especially in wooded areas. Be alert to the depth and speed of flood water. Do not venture in to water if you do not know the speed of flow or the depth. Keep up to date with the latest forecasts as well as traffic and travel news.

NEXT UPDATE: This alert will be allowed to expire at 12pm on Sunday, unless ocnditions warrant further updates.
